Over the last 20 years Joanne has had the great privilege of learning from many senior teachers from a variety of yogic traditions including Todd Norian (Anusara), Rodney Yee, Esther Myers, Karen Major (Iyengar), Marlene Mawhinney (Iyengar), Nischala Joy Devi, Robin Rothenberg (Viniyoga), Paul Harvey (Viniyoga) and many others. The first yoga class she taught was at an athletic centre in London, Ontario and believe it or not, she had over 90 students! It was 1997 and everyone wanted to try it. At the time Joanne had no training, and no certification to teach yoga; she was self-taught and wanted to teach it. Since then yoga has become more mainstream and she has accumulated thousands of hours of training and experience teaching yoga to all ages, and physical conditions; to men, women and children, at seniors centres, schools, YMCA, The Canadian Cancer Society and now as a Yoga Therapist in Ontario, Canada where she is also part of a team of health care professionals in Collingwood, Ontario.
​Her passion is to teach and develop programs and classes that make the healing power of yoga accessible to adults with bodies that need a little more attention and care including individuals with back pain, hip or knee replacements, arthritis, for debilitating conditions and for cardiac and cancer recovery. Her accomplishments include the creation of 13 televised classes called Yoga for Sore Bodies; a popular 3 hour workshop to heal sciatic pain and a manual for the workshop that is selling worldwide on Amazon; she also developed a series of classes for non-yogis and beginner students on how to quiet and calm their own body and mind. Her audio recordings for this series has been well received by her students and she is making them available on Audible Yoga.
