You can also use this class as a general balance class. It's a wonderful sequence to steady the mind, increase the power of concentration, lead you smoothly into your meditation practice or increase your powers of realising your goals. During Late Summer the Fire Element starts to dampen and a transition from the hot, passionate months of Summer start to turn towards the calm reflective action of the colder, darker months to come. They are not here yet though and our practice should balance out this feeling of being on shifting sands with a good core practice and sequences that help us to feel balanced. Our yoga practice will be designed to stimulate the stomach and spleen meridians. Our yoga sequences includes poses stimulate the digestive areas of the body (agni) and challenge us to be balanced and strong and stable . It is also a time to attend to any feelings of worry in our lives and find healthy ways of dealing with this, sometimes, unhelpful mental activity. Focus on finding a sense of permanence within your practice whether it be practicing at the same time each day or working on the same posture over the weeks. Well functioning 'Late Summer Energy' allows us to develop a deep inner sense of well-being and a wonderful sense of ease and comfort in the body. Work on and off the mat with this energy by asking yourself what nourishes you in the moment. Sometimes it is good to be active, intense and dynamic and at other times we need to be comforted, maintain our boundaries and take things more slowly (food, activity and our yoga practice). Decide which you need and then drink that energy in fully.
