Ashtanga, astanga, express, short form, primary series
This Ashtanga yoga class is a led (talk through) short form of the primary series. A few postures are missed out to make the practice shorter, but you will still find yourself working hard and feeling that you have had a balanced and complete yoga practice afterwards. This session is suitable for mixed abilities, whether you are fairly new to practicing Ashtanga yoga and not quite ready for a 1.5 hour practice, or more experienced and just short on time. If Ashtanga yoga is totally new to you though, I would recommend checking out my beginner's class first. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is an athletic style of yoga which will challenge and build strength, flexibility, and stamina. Physical and mental purifications is achieved through the building of agni or fire, internal heat, in this challenging practice. A set sequence of postures is practiced in time with the breath, this allowing you to clearly see your progress over time, and eventually even becomes a moving meditation. Ashtanga yoga uses the tristana, or threefold method, of posture, breath, and gazepoint, to bring focus and concentration and calm the mind, bringing you to a state of inner peace. Props are not essential, but you may find a strap and 2 bricks useful.
